DESCRIPTION:Learn about heating and cooling your home using basic solar passive design to reducing energy costs and carbon emissions!\n\n\nDo you want to have a more sustainable home\, without having to move or build a new one? \nIn this interactive workshop Shani and Tim will teach you about the principles of basic solar passive design and how you can use those principles to save gas and electricity in your home. Many low or no cost actions will be covered in depth. You will leave with some great ideas to reduce your environmental impact and those power bills! \nTea and coffee provided. Help us reduce waste by bringing your reusable keep cup. \nAbout the presenters \nShani and Tim from Ecoburbia have a wealth of knowledge relating to urban homesteads\, adult education\, building and sustainability. This knowledge is exemplified by Ecoburbia\, an urban infill development with shared living spaces to increase the population density\, urban farm\, and demonstration sustainable house\, with cutting edge energy systems\, water collection and dispersal systems and innovative passive solar design. Their goal is to create more sustainable\, connected and resilient communities by providing exciting and motivating educational programs that are based on sound behaviour change theory. \nExtra information \nPhotography and/or filming may occur at this event. They add shade and value to our homes\, shelter for wildlife and carbon capture for the environment. Yet\, Perth’s canopy coverage is in decline. \nJoin us to learn how you can contribute to a greener community through sustainable choices and informed tree selection in afternoon workshop proudly presented by Hannah Smith of Budding Concepts. \nThis event explores some of the common barriers people face when managing trees and provides insight into which trees are best suited to urban properties with an aim to retain them through to maturity.We will discuss: \n\nThe benefits of trees\nPerth’s urban canopy decline\nHow to choose a tree for your garden: selection considerations and recommendations\nLocal stock availability\, costs and options\nGovernment rebates\nPlanting and establishment methods\nBasic maintenance\nWeedy and noxious trees to avoid\n\nWith threats from Polyphagous Shothole borer and decline of habitat for Black Cockatoos\, it is more important than ever to plant trees\, let them grow\, mature and reach their potential! \nAbout WA Tree Festival \nThe WA Tree Festival brings together local governments and community groups across Western Australia to celebrate the vital role trees play in supporting nature and enhancing our neighbourhoods. The annual event\, running from 11 April to 10 May 2026 celebrates the value of trees and inspire action to protect and grow our urban tree canopy.
