At this special event\, renowned native bee scientist Dr Kit Prendergast will introduce you to these fascinating pollinators\, the vital role they play in healthy ecosystems\, and what we can all do to help protect them. \nWhat you’ll learn:– The amazing diversity of native bees found in our local bushland and backyards.– How native bees differ from European honey bees (and why feral hives can be a problem).– The key threats facing native bees on the Swan Coastal Plain.– Simple\, practical ways to support native bees at home and in the community.– How native bees act as indicators of ecosystem health. \nWhether you’re a gardener\, nature lover\, or just bee-curious\, this workshop will give you a whole new appreciation for these tiny but mighty pollinators. \nDr Kit Prendergast is WA’s leading native bee scientist. Her research has uncovered a rich diversity of native bees across the Swan Coastal Plain and practical ways to conserve them. Kit has published over 70 scientific articles\, is the author of Creating a Haven for Native Bees\, and is known for making science engaging\, accessible and fun. She is a WA Young Tall Poppy\, and Premier’s Scientist of the Year Finalist.
