SUMMARY:Create a Rag Rug (for 13–25 years)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to create a rag rug from old textiles. \nRag weaving is a wonderful way to take old textiles and give them new life. Come to this workshop to learn how to create your very own rag rug that’s truly unique. \nIf you have old sheets/doona’s to share\, please bring them to the workshop and learn how to repurpose them into a rag rug. \nWe will be using hula hoops for the weaving frame\, so if you have a hula hoop at home\, please bring it along. Or check if your local op shop has hula hoops for sale. We have some to share if you don’t have your own hoop. \nThis workshop is for young people aged 13 to 25 years. \nThis workshop is hosted by the City of Canning in partnership with the Australian Association for Environmental Education WA Chapter. \nThis workshop has been supported by a grant from the Government of Western Australia and the Waste Authority. It responds to Australia’s growing textile waste problem by empowering young people in Canning with practical knowledge and skills to challenge fast fashion and choose sustainable alternatives such as upcycling\, swapping and second‑hand shopping.

DESCRIPTION:Electrikhana is a free annual event held by the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) and supported by the City of Canning\, to promote the benefits of electric vehicles (EVs). \nTalks and workshops will be held inside the centre\, while a range of EVs will be parked outside for the curious. \nElectrify Everything WA will also be in attendance\, discussing the benefits of switching to clean electric technologies. \nAll are welcome – bring the family and your friends to this highly informative\, friendly and free event. \nHow do I get to the event?\nCanning River Eco Education Centre is located on Kent Street\, Wilson. There is limited parking on site and we ask that attendees do not park on resident verges. We encourage you to walk\, cycle or carpool to the event where possible. Bike racks are available at the venue. \nAlternatively\, free parking is available at the City’s Administration Centre\, entry via George Street West\, about 1km from the event via the beautiful Canning River Regional Park. \nBook now
