Slumber Party – I have fond memories of fun childhood sleepovers, and now have a daughter of my own who also loves sleepovers. So for her 8th Birthday, I decided to treat her to a girly slumber party with a difference!
I chose Sweet Dreams and Goodnight because it is Australia’s original and best slumber party specialist, and now I know why! They really made the experience so unique and memorable – from the first gasp of wonderment at the sight of the matching tents draped with twinkling fairy lights and bunting, to the individual trays thoughtfully laid with special touches for each guest.
“I got butterflies in my tummy when I saw the tents all set up,” the Birthday Girl told me the next day, followed by “It was the best sleepover EVER”. Happy Kid, Happy Mum.
The Sweet Dreams and Goodnight packages are bundled for 5 kids for a comfortable slumber party, but you can add guests at an extra cost if you desire, depending on your space. The good thing about this party idea though, is that it allows you to limit your guests to a few close friends only, and your child is unlikely to feel hard done by because the experience is just so special.
I chose to have our package delivered and setup, which is an extra cost but was worth it as it contributed to a hassle-free party on my part. Within an hour or so, my playroom was transformed into a magic slumberland… Pretty tasselled bunting and fairy lights linked the four tents into a cosy and enticing setup. Beneath each tent nestled a single air mattress with a colour coordinated sheet and duvet. An individual tray graced each spot laid with delights for each guest to enjoy: a tea-light lantern (battery operated), and a Sleepover Kit which includes a new toothbrush, facecloth and eye mask for the kids to keep.
In addition, the birthday girl was given a gorgeous 3D birthday card and a special notebook. These beautifully designed journals have blank lined pages interspersed with inspirational quotes. I opted to buy a further three journals for the other guests as they are so gorgeous and 50% of profits made go to empowering women and girls through education and leadership programs.
I also opted to add a Pillowcase Decorating Kit for each guest, and these were a big hit with the girls who got stuck in right away. Each kit comes with a plain white pillowcase and a set of fabric markers to get creative with. The girls wanted to use their pillowcases right away, which added to the fun of the night, and was another keepsake to take home. Other fun activity kits for party entertainment include Dreamcatcher Kit; Jewellery Making Kit; the Photo Booth Hire Pack and the Retro Games Hire Pack.
Sweet Dreams and Goodnight supplied all the bedding, apart from pillows – guests are asked to bring their own pillows for hygienic reasons. The girls found that the summer night was warm enough for them to sleep on top of the duvets, as the tents kept the air snug and warm like a personal cocoon. They all said it was a very comfortable sleep.
The girls just loved hanging out in their individual tents, with only their heads peaking out in order to chat and giggle endlessly. I must admit it was a late night with all the excitement, followed by an early morning, but well worth it!
In the morning, with a touch of sadness all I needed to do was dismantle the tents and decorations, let the air out of the mattresses and loosely fold the bedding ready for pick up. This was a simple affair and everything was explained to me during the setup process. No need to clean the bedding before returning it – another bonus!
Sweet Dreams and Goodnight will try to cater for any theme or colour combination to make your vision come true. Boys, as well as girls, will be thrilled at the looks that can be created. Ready themes include Frozen, Spiderman, Camouflage, Pirates, Footy Teams and more. The DIY option requires you to collect the equipment, do the set up yourself and return it all by midday the following day.
Stunning party invitations are also available to purchase – either a standardised design on which you can handwrite your guest name and party details or a customised option, which will be printed for you once you provide the details.
Sweet Dreams and Goodnight is currently based in Perth but franchises will soon be opening up across Australia and New Zealand too.
