Poynter Market is run buy the Poynter Primary school’s P&C and it is held every fortnight on a Saturday on the school grounds.
We used to live in Duncraig and Poynter used to be my favourite market especially when the kids were smaller. Markets can sometimes be overwhelming and too busy with small children and pushchairs but Poynter is small and well spread out; very manageable to walk around and the playground makes a great pit stop between the shopping.
We visited on Mothers Day’s weekend. At the P&C stall, they were running a mothers day raffle. The pre primary kids set up a stall selling mothers day cards, cookies, a decorating and face painting station for a gold coin donation. The sausage sizzle and bacon & egg rolls were also very popular.
Although small there is a very good variety of stalls. There are about five fruit and veggie stalls.
Only one of them sells organic. They are in fact an online organic shop called Organic N Green. Their products are all certified organic and grown from local organic farmers in WA.
There are two very famous and very busy bakeries. Il Panino. Nick the baker makes a wide range of bread made in the traditional Italian way.
And the Artisan German bakery with some amazing sweet treats. Be ready to queue for these two as they are very popular, but so worth the wait.
Grassland organic meat specialises in grass fed beef raised in Dandaragan WA. They also sell a good variety of organic chicken, lamb and beautiful preservative free and gluten free sausages. I stocked up on sausages, bones for broth and a juicy rump steak.
If you are like me and love goats cheese, you can buy the most amazing freshly farmed goats cheese from Ringwould Dairy next to Grassland. I left with a pot of goat curd for $10 which I enjoyed at home later that day with some fresh celery sticks. Cheese heaven!
If you love Thai food you must visit Jai’s stall. The lady makes authentic Thai food with fresh ingredients from scratch; msg and preservative free. Yellow curry and green curry are amongst the dishes. She also sells the sauces separately if you want to add your own meat/veggies or fish at home. Her dishes are all served in containers ideal for a takeaway. Prices are reasonable and range from between $10/15 per dish.
Fresh Pasta, olive oil, olives, dried fruits and French crepes are amongst the other stalls at Poynter.
Poynter Market is a great outing for the whole family and a good way to support local businesses and the community
Poynter Market runs every other Saturday.
