Play School Exhibition Wanneroo

Play School Exhibition Review

There’s been a bear in there, a chair as well, people with games and stories to tell for 50 years! To celebrate Play School entertaining and educating Australian children for 50 years Wanneroo Cultural Centre is hosting the “Happy Birthday Play School: Celebrating 50 Years” Exhibition. The display is touring the country and this is the only gallery in Perth’s metro area that you can see it.

The displays range from modern-day episodes to the original episodes from the ’60s. It sure brought back memories of watching the opening scenes on the TVs around the gallery from the ’80s (my era) and how different it is from the version my kids watched.

Some of the more special displays include the original B1 (Banana in Pyjamas) and the Rocket Clock and from the ’60s on loan from the National Museum of Australia. Jemima is there featuring some of her extensive wardrobe as well as modern-day items seen in the“Big Ted’s Big Adventure” series.

Little fans of the show can help themselves to the vast array of Play School books to read on the mat or draw Humpty Dumpty’s face on the colouring activity supplied. My boy’s favourite activity was using the tablets to create his own Play School movie. The original windows are also on display, and you can even take a selfie through the replica square window!

The exhibition is in the Wanneroo Art Gallery upstairs in the Wanneroo Cultural Centre, 3 Rocco Way, Wanneroo (there is a lift and the whole presentation is pram friendly). Also in the centre is the Wanneroo Library, Regional Museum and Elixir Café so you can really make a day of it. The exhibition runs from 26th May until 14th August and entry is free. Opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday 10am-4pm, it will be open every day during the school holidays with extra activities. For more information visit
