The obvious benefits of meeting in a safe friendly supportive positive and encouraging space to create art\, led to the program becoming ongoing and a new focus of Richmind’s recovery approach and brand.\n \nThis exhibition celebrates the numerous and profound benefits art can have on our mental health and the amazing diversity of ways people can express themselves creatively to support their wellbeing. SUMMARY:Christine de Grancy's 'A Day with David' | Joondalup Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:A rare\, intimate encounter captured between a music icon and artists in a psychiatric clinic — shown for the first time in WA. \nWhat happens when one of the world’s most iconic artists steps away from the spotlight to spend a quiet day with outsider artists in a psychiatric clinic? Photographer Christine de Grancy was there to capture it\, and now\, for the first time in Western Australia\, we’re bringing these extraordinary images to Joondalup.  \n  \nOn 8 September 1994\, David Bowie\, accompanied by Brian Eno\, André Heller and photographer Christine de Grancy\, entered the grounds of the Gugging Psychiatric Clinic near Vienna. This wasn’t a casual photo opportunity. Bowie’s own family history included his half-brother Terry Burns\, whose schizophrenia and tragic suicide haunted Bowie’s life and work. At Gugging\, he encountered something profound: a community of Art Brut creators\, patients who had become internationally recognised artists\, including Oswald Tschirtner\, Johann Hauser\, Johann Garber and August Walla.  \n  \nDeGrancy captured four rolls of film that day\, revealing Bowie absorbed\, humble and intent on listening\, sketching\, sharing coffee and engaging with artists’ stories. This rare\, intimate perspective coincided with Bowie’s creative reconnection with Brian Eno\, inspiring the iconic 1. Outside album (1995).   \n  \nThirty years later\, these photographs stand as both cultural history and intimate artistic encounter\, a rare glimpse into Bowie’s search for meaning\, authenticity and connection beyond the stage.  \n  \nPresented in collaboration with Santa Monica Art Museum\, this exhibition transforms the gallery into a reflective space on creativity\, mental health and the power of art to connect worlds. DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the City of Bayswater\nFreestyle Now will be hosting  a FREE  BMX / Mountain bike jump track coaching session\n\n\nThanks to the City of Bayswater \n \nFreestyle now will be facilitating a fun and informative coaching session at The Bayswater BMX and Mountain Bike Facility for BMX/MTB participants. Our facilitators analyze the participants’ skill level and work from that base and assist with confidence building. It is important to not only just focus on skill building but confidence as well. By using their own skill base as a stepping stone we are able to help them advance. Our coaches speak the participant’s language and speak on their level. Our instructors relay the importance of safety\, the importance of helmets and how they can minimize injuries. Freestyle Now team members will be present to offer participants technical advice\, trick tips\, skill development and skatepark etiquette. \n \nParticipants are split up into groups based on their skill level and what they are interested in achieving.  \n \nAll participants would need their own equipment\, helmet and closed in shoes. Participants with defective equipment may not be able to participate. Our coaches may be able to assist with some minor adjustments (MTr/BMX Bar straightening) before the session starts if required and time permitting. \nParticipants under the age of 6 will be taken on their ability to understand and follow instructions and to control their apparatus. \n \nKey points \n \nParticipants must be wearing a helmet \nPlease remember to bring some water and wear sunscreen \nRecommended for participants must be over the age of 6 \nParents must stay on site if their child is under 12 \nLimited spare scooters and skateboard may be available \nPlease arrive 15 minutes early to register your attendance \nDisclaimer form will need to be signed on the day \nFreestyle Now coaching workshops are fun\, informative and motivational. \n \nOur coaches let the participants ride at their own level and encourage progression. \n \nAll our coaches are very easy going and relate to the participants well. Our workshops cover all aspects of the sports\, as well as equipment maintenance and personal safety issues. \nFreestyle Now hosts many coaching workshop sessions throughout the year for various local governments\, community organizations and private companies. Our events always start from 5pm – 8:30pm.\n\n\n FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION:\n\n\nQ: What times does it start and end?\nA: 5pm – 8:30pm\n\n\nQ: How often do you come here?\nA: Every location is monthly on the same day.\n\n\nQ: When does it run till?\nA: Till the end of April.\n\n\nQ: Are pets allowed?\nA: Yes but they need to be on a leash\, and you will need to bring poo bags to clean up after them.\n\n\nQ: Are there toilets?\nA: Yes\, all locations now have toilets.\n\n\nQ: Is there Eftpos?\nA: Yes\, most if not all of the vendors have eftpos facilities.\n\n\nQ: Is there Gluten Free\, Vegetarian or Vegan options?\nA: Yes\, some food vendors will have these options.\n\n\nQ: Are there tables and chairs available?\nA: We do provide some tables and chairs but are only limited. We encourage you to bring your own blanket or chairs also.\n\n\nQ: Can I know what’s on the menu?\nA: Because we have so many food vendors on our list that may have changing menus\, it’s best to see the lineup which is posted; then contact the individual vendors privately.\n\n\nQ: Why are there less trucks some nights?\nA: There could be a few different reasons for this. Sometimes there could be unfortunate events where the vendors can no longer make it and we couldn’t find a replacement in time. A particular location may not be as busy as others so we would need to reduce the number of vendors for it to be viable for them to attend. There are also many different events around town and our vendors may be committed to other places.\n\n\nPlease remember everyone\, in order for us to keep bringing the BEST food vendors in town to cook you dinner\, we need your support. DESCRIPTION:A rare\, intimate encounter captured between a music icon and artists in a psychiatric clinic — shown for the first time in WA. \nWhat happens when one of the world’s most iconic artists steps away from the spotlight to spend a quiet day with outsider artists in a psychiatric clinic? Photographer Christine de Grancy was there to capture it\, and now\, for the first time in Western Australia\, we’re bringing these extraordinary images to Joondalup.  \n  \nOn 8 September 1994\, David Bowie\, accompanied by Brian Eno\, André Heller and photographer Christine de Grancy\, entered the grounds of the Gugging Psychiatric Clinic near Vienna. This wasn’t a casual photo opportunity. Bowie’s own family history included his half-brother Terry Burns\, whose schizophrenia and tragic suicide haunted Bowie’s life and work. At Gugging\, he encountered something profound: a community of Art Brut creators\, patients who had become internationally recognised artists\, including Oswald Tschirtner\, Johann Hauser\, Johann Garber and August Walla.  \n  \nDeGrancy captured four rolls of film that day\, revealing Bowie absorbed\, humble and intent on listening\, sketching\, sharing coffee and engaging with artists’ stories. This rare\, intimate perspective coincided with Bowie’s creative reconnection with Brian Eno\, inspiring the iconic 1. Outside album (1995).   \n  \nThirty years later\, these photographs stand as both cultural history and intimate artistic encounter\, a rare glimpse into Bowie’s search for meaning\, authenticity and connection beyond the stage.  \n  \nPresented in collaboration with Santa Monica Art Museum\, this exhibition transforms the gallery into a reflective space on creativity\, mental health and the power of art to connect worlds. DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the Town of Victoria Park.\nFreestyle Now will be conducting FREE coaching sessions at the McCallum Park Skatepark.\n\n\nThanks to the Town of Victoria Park. \nSession 1: 9am – Gender Diverse SHE/HER \nSession 2: 10am – Mixed Gender \nFreestyle now will be facilitating a fun and informative coaching session at McCallum Park Skatepark for Skateboard\, Scooter\, BMX and Rollerskate participants. Our facilitators analyze the participants’ skill level and work from that base and assist with confidence building. It is important to not only just focus on skill building but confidence as well. By using their own skill base as a stepping stone we are able to help them advance. Our coaches speak the participant’s language and speak on their level. Our instructors relay the importance of safety\, the importance of helmets and how they can minimize injuries. Freestyle Now team members will be present to offer participants technical advice\, trick tips\, skill development and skatepark etiquette. \nAll participants would need their own equipment\, helmet and closed in shoes. Participants with defective equipment may not be able to participate. Our coaches may be able to assist with some minor adjustments (Scooter/BMX Bar straightening\, skate/rollerskate truck/wheel tightening) before the session starts if required and time permitting. \nParticipants under the age of 6 will be taken on their ability to control apparatus and participate productively. \nKey points \n\nParticipants must be wearing a helmet\nPlease remember to bring some water and wear sunscreen\nParents must stay on site if their child is under 12\nLimited spare scooters and skateboard may be available\nPlease arrive 15 minutes early to register your attendance\nDisclaimer form will need to be signed on the day\nCoaching workshops are not suitable for 3 wheeled plastic scooters or plastic rollers skates\n\nFreestyle Now coaching workshops are fun\, informative and motivational. \nOur coaches let the participants ride at their own level and encourage progression. \nAll our coaches are very easy going and relate to the participants well. Our workshops cover all aspects of the sports\, as well as equipment maintenance and personal safety issues. \nFreestyle Now hosts many coaching workshop sessions throughout the year for various local governments\, community organizations and private companies.
