SUMMARY:Biodiversity Month
DESCRIPTION:September is Biodiversity Month\, and this year the City of Cockburn is putting the spotlight on ecosystems\, our wetlands\, bushland and coastline. \nAn ecosystem is a community of living organisms\, including plants\, animals and microorganisms\, interacting with each other and with their non‑living environment such as sunlight\, soil\, water and air. Cockburn’s ecosystems support a rich diversity of life and play a vital role in maintaining a healthy\, resilient environment. \nThroughout September\, the City will host a series of events\, workshops and activities to help the community learn about\, connect with and take meaningful action to support the natural environments that make up Cockburn and the wildlife that depends on them. Whether you’re a seasoned nature‑lover or simply curious about your local area\, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved. \nSeptember also marks National Biodiversity Month\, a time to recognise the importance of Australia’s diverse plants\, animals and ecosystems. The City of Cockburn manages nearly 100 bushland reserves\, including coastal\, wetland and upland areas. Together with ecological linkages across developed areas\, these spaces provide essential habitat for native plants and animals and support wildlife movement across the landscape. \nThere’s a mix of drop in and pop up events with some event registrations opening throughout September. Check back regularly for the latest updates. \nWildlife Weekends at Cockburn Libraries\nGet up close to some of Western Australia’s fascinating native animals during Wildlife Weekends at Cockburn Libraries this September. \nEach Saturday\, a different local ecosystem will take centre stage\, with interactive wildlife displays and engaging presentations suitable for all ages. Meet native animals\, learn about the habitats they call home\, and discover how you can help protect Cockburn’s wetlands\, bushland and coastal environments. \n No booking required.
