Thinking Green: visible mending + clothes swap in Dayton

June 8 @ 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Join us for a visible mending workshop and then refresh your wardrobe with a clothes swap hosted by the EMRC!

Visible mending

Elise Hinkley from Hoop Hoop Hooray will guide you on how to give your clothes a new lease on life plus get hands-on with practice to enhance your repair and transformation skills.

You will be taught visible mending techniques like appliqué, embroidery, and sashiko in a collaborative setting. All skill levels are welcome to learn and share practical tips with a community of like-minded individuals passionate about the art of mending.

The mending workshop will take place from 1.30 – 3.30pm and bookings are required. After attending the workshop you will have the opportunity to explore the clothes swap.

What you’ll get:

  • All workshop materials (including Sashiko needle and thread) and notes so that you can continue mending and revamping your clothes at home.

What to bring:

  • Items from home you would like to practice your skills on
  • Embellishments (buttons, patches, fabrics etc)

Clothes swap

Do you have clothing that you don’t love anymore? The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) are hosting a clothes swap!

Check your wardrobe for items you don’t wear anymore and bring them along to swap them for items you will wear. You can bring as much as you like as long as it is in clean and good wearable condition, and take as many or as few as you like.

Brabham Repair Cafe will be available throughout the clothes swap with a sewing machine if you require any mending and/or adjustments to the items you have swapped.

The clothes swap is a drop-in session and will take place from 2.30 – 5pm.

What to bring on the evening:

  • All size clothing items – BOTH male & female accepted.
  • No children’s clothes
  • Accessories – Hats, scarves, jewellery, bags
  • Shoes

Please book in as spaces are limited. For program and booking inquiries contact the Sustainable Environment Officer on (08) 9267 9282.

Please note that this program is suitable for adults and young people aged 12 and over, and is a hands-on workshop. Photographs and videos may be taken of the event. Please book one ticket for each person attending.
