Suminigashi – Japanese Paper Marbling (Guildford)

Please note that this program is suitable for ages 12-18, and is a hands-on workshop. Photographs and videos may be taken of the event. We recommend wearing a paint shirt or apron.
Learn a new decorative technique of paper marbling. It is called Suminigashi which translates to “floating ink”. An ancient paper marbling technique practiced by Shinto Priests as early as the 12th Century. The presenter will show you how to make the size (thick water) that you will float acrylic paints on top of, creating interesting and intricate marbled patterns. You can make bookmarks, cards, cover books or simply enjoy the act of making beautiful paper!
In accordance with hygiene requirements, social distancing will be maintained throughout this program and hand sanitizing stations and cleaning products will be available for use.
