Parenting…What to Try When You’ve Tried Everything
November 16, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join clinical psychologist Jess Gorman and provisional psychologist Josh Van Zuylen from Masters Psychology as they unpack the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model. Learn skills in this workshop to help communication, decrease conflict and enhance relationships.
The CPS model is a way of solving problems and working with your child in a more positive and effective way. It’s all about finding solutions that work for everyone involved, instead of just one person being in charge or forcing their ideas on others.
In CPS, the focus is on understanding each other’s perspectives and finding common ground. It’s a team effort with you and your child where everyone gets a chance to share their thoughts and feelings. Instead of blaming or punishing someone when there’s a problem, CPS encourages open communication and working together to come up with solutions that everyone can agree on.
As such, the CPS model is non-punitive and non-adversarial, decreases the likelihood of conflict, enhances relationships, improves communication, and helps kids and adults learn and display skills on the more positive side of human nature: empathy, appreciating how one’s behavior is affecting others, resolving disagreements in ways that do not involve conflict, taking another’s perspective, and honesty.
Light refreshments will be provided.
