Nature know-how: Introduction to local plant ID (Wandoo Heights)
September 17 @ 8:30 am - 10:30 am
Please note that this is a program for adults and young people aged 12 and over, and is a hands-on workshop. Photographs and videos may be taken of the event. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for walking outside, and please bring a hat and drink bottle.
In this introduction to plant identification, Karen, from Life in the Bush, will briefly explain how plant taxonomy works, discuss the characteristics of some common WA plant families and demonstrate what to look for when identifying local native species. She will also briefly introduce you to common weeds species that you may encounter in local bushland.
Then the group will take a look around to discover local native species, many of which will be in bloom, and practice identifying some under Karen’s guidance. The aim is to provide attendees with some basic knowledge, which would enable them to broadly identify common plant families and some common species when on a bushwalk in local bushland.
A map of the meeting location will be provided after registration.
Please book in as spaces are limited. For all inquiries contact the Sustainable Environment Officer on (08) 9267 9282.
