Did you know that bats, which make up about 20 percent of the world’s mammal species, are still a scientific enigma in Western Australia?

Bats are more prevalent in Perth than you might think. In the metropolitan areas of southwest WA, you can find nine species of microbats. Among these, the Gould’s Wattled Bat and the White-striped Freetail Bat can be spotted in the Perth foothills.

These insect-eating marvels can bring significant benefits to all of us, and chances are you’ve crossed paths with them without even realising it. A single microbat can devour over 1000 insects in a single night, including those pesky mosquitoes. Essentially, bats are nature’s very own super pest controllers!
