Come along to see the notable and notorious historical figures of Melville captured in portraiture and story. Learn about Melville’s historical unsung heroes as local primary school students exhibit the creative learning they’ve been doing to explore the stories of local characters who’ve made their mark on history.

Students have engaged in the City of Melville’s Museum and Local History Learning Program to explore the story and history of local characters from a Chinese-Australian war veteran, First Nations resistance fighters, to Melville’s first female mayor, world famous botanists and many more. Each student has drawn a portrait that will be on display – with one of each historical figure being selected as part of a historical resource for the community and school in the form of a pack of cards.

Celebrate the launch of the Melvistories – a pack of stories in the palm of your hand along with the students on the final day of the exhibition Friday, 13 October as selected artworks are revealed and stories shared.

The launch is a free event with limited capacity – bookings essential.
