About Derek Nannup
Derek Nannup is a Nyoongah of Western Australia from the Wardundi and Binjarrib mob of the southwest.
The experience and skills he has developed throughout his career has enabled him to share his culture with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. Derek shares knowledge using stories, song and dance and the wisdom and values of his proud and ancient culture.

Derek realised humour was a way to relate to people and helped to break down barriers. He developed skills including juggling, unicycling, stilt walking, acrobats and fire breathing and has worked as a professional clown. In his spare time, Derek does the rounds as Dr Munjong, a clown doctor in Princess Margaret Hospital which he has been doing for many years.

Derek fostered his acting, directing and writing skills and presented hundreds of workshops – promoting the diversity and richness of Aboriginal culture to students and community groups all over Western Australia with the Yirra Yaakin Youth Theatre.

Derek has been with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions for 9 years as the Visitor Services Officer in the team at Yanchep National Park. His role involves assisting visitors with information about Yanchep National Park and its history, geology and resident fauna and flora. He also runs indigenous based educational programs around traditional customs and culture.
