Calm Your Child with Brain and Body Hacks
February 29 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
This is a workshop for parents/carers to give them more tools to keep their kids relaxed and show how to calm them down when they have “meltdowns”. This is based on Sally’s 20+ years of experience as a social worker and 25+ years as a yogi.
The workshop is based on Western psychology including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, attachment theory (Circle of Security Parenting program), mindfulness (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction), Positive Psychology, neuroscience, and yoga (movement and mindfulness/body and brain integration).
Originally a registered nurse, Sally became a social worker mostly in the disability, child development, and child protection fields. After over 20 years of social work, she wanted to teach children and their parents / carers how to help children to self-regulate better. That’s when she started Calm Kids, Calm Families.
She trained as a children’s yoga teacher and completed her 200 hours Yoga Teacher Training in 2019. She has also trained in trauma-informed yoga and runs specialised classes.
She currently teaches yoga to individuals with disabilities (autism, ADHD, anxiety, intellectual disability), children, family groups and adults.
She is licensed to facilitate the Peaceful Kids program (psycho-education based on mindfulness, meditation and Positive Psychology) as well as the Circle of Security Parenting program.
She facilitates Peaceful Kids and Circle of Security groups on request. She also undertakes contract work with the Department of Communities, assessing prospective adoptive parents and foster carers.
She is a mother of two adult children and grandma to one toddler and enjoys her regular “granny duties” days!
