We were lucky enough to be at the Event Cinema Innaloo premiere of Paddington 2. I am a Paddington fan from way back and my daughter enjoys watching the original Paddington Movie, so we were very excited to see this movie and it didn’t disappoint.
In this movie Paddington has settled into life in London with the Browns, making friends everywhere he goes. His Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday is coming up and Paddington wants to get her the perfect present. With the help of his friend Mr Gruber, he finds an antique pop-up book of London and but before he has a chance to buy it a thief steals the book. The rest of the movie is the sometimes funny adventure of Paddington, the Browns and their friends as they work to unmask the real culprit and get the book back before Aunt Lucy’s birthday.
The movie does have a couple of scenes that could be scary for young ones. Towards the end, my 3.5yr old daughter said she didn’t like the movie and thought it was scary but as soon as that scene was over she was loving the movie again. When we got home she told dad she loved it.
It was great to see some of the characters from the first movie, like the security guard, made appearances in this movie. Hugh Grant takes on the role of the villain, a self-absorbed acting legend called Phoenix Buchanan. Paddington is the same loveable bear as always, relying on good manners, decency and marmalade sandwiches to get through his troubles.
For the premiere Event Cinemas Innaloo had set up the entrance to the cinema to look like an antique store with lots of interesting bric-a-brac. My daughter loved walking through bubbles as we entered the cinema. We were also given a show bag as we arrived, it included a “marmalade sandwich” cookie and a toffee apple.
Before entering there was a photo booth and the photos came out with Paddington Bear in the middle, which was a fun little touch. The Cinebuzz photobooth isn’t limited to premiere events.
Inside the cinema, there was face painting and balloon twisting for the kids. As well as some talented performers doing carnival style acts while we waited for the movie to start.
We really enjoyed our morning and the movie delivered feel-good laughs for the family. Our friend we were with found there were a couple scenes that brought a tear to her eye.
Paddington 2 is in cinemas from 21 December 2017 and is a great movie for the whole family to enjoy.
