SUMMARY:Native Bee Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn about WA’s amazing native bees with Dr Kit Prendergast (aka @dr.beebabette!).\n\n\nJoin us for an inspiring and eye-opening Native Bee Workshop celebrating the incredible (and often overlooked!) native bees of the Swan Coastal Plain. \nWestern Australia is home to hundreds of native bee species – many of which live right here in our Banksia and Tuart Woodlands. At this special event\, renowned native bee scientist Dr Kit Prendergast will introduce you to these fascinating pollinators\, the vital role they play in healthy ecosystems\, and what we can all do to help protect them. \nWhat you’ll learn:– The amazing diversity of native bees found in our local bushland and backyards.– How native bees differ from European honey bees (and why feral hives can be a problem).– The key threats facing native bees on the Swan Coastal Plain.– Simple\, practical ways to support native bees at home and in the community.– How native bees act as indicators of ecosystem health. \nWhether you’re a gardener\, nature lover\, or just bee-curious\, this workshop will give you a whole new appreciation for these tiny but mighty pollinators. \nDr Kit Prendergast is WA’s leading native bee scientist. Her research has uncovered a rich diversity of native bees across the Swan Coastal Plain and practical ways to conserve them. Kit has published over 70 scientific articles\, is the author of Creating a Haven for Native Bees\, and is known for making science engaging\, accessible and fun. She is a WA Young Tall Poppy\, and Premier’s Scientist of the Year Finalist.

SUMMARY:Canning Turtle Talk and ‘Turtle Tracker’ Training
DESCRIPTION:Our native snake-necked turtle population needs your help.\n\n\nMany of the City of Canning’s wetlands\, including Wilson Wetlands\, are home to populations of the snake-necked turtle which are under threat from a combination of predators such as foxes and ravens\, vehicle strikes on our roads\, lack of suitable nesting habitat and the increased drying of southwest wetlands. \nCome to this workshop to learn about snake-necked turtles and the Saving Our Snake Necked Turtle (SOSNT) project. \nSOSNT is a citizen science project and community engagement program to help conserve the snake-necked turtle. \nSOSNT provides you with an opportunity to help protect turtles by receiving training to become a ‘Turtle Tracker’. You can be trained to support nesting turtles\, protect their nests and use the TurtleSAT App. From September to January turtles leave the water to nest. They are most vulnerable during this time\, so need your help then. \nFor further information about the project visit the website: www.SOSNT.net.au
