A recent addition to the Forrestfield Forum shops is The Local Shack. The Local Shack is a restaurant chain with a large menu including all-day breakfast, burger, desserts, salads and cocktails. You will find most tables have a well-known game on them, Guess Who, Jenga or Connect Four were some of the ones I spotted and a great way to keep the kids entertained.
This was my first visit to a Local Shack and what I really liked about the Forrestfield one is we could sit in the outdoor seating area watch my daughter while she played in the shopping centre playground. We were there for breakfast so when we first arrived the area was reasonably quiet and it was easy to watch her from our table. Outside had a mix of standard tables and chairs and high tables. We were able to get a standard table as the high tables would have been a bit harder for my daughter to climb up and down.
There is also seating inside. Inside was brightly decorated with a mix of high tables, booths and normal tables. There is a wall mural on one wall. The toilets and change table are not located in the restaurant but a short walk away inside the shopping mall. High chairs are available.
There is a rug with an activity cube, building blocks, books and some truck / car toys. There is a screen set up but nothing was playing when we were there. There are a couple of comfy chairs right at the play area or a number of tables around that offer good viewing for supervising your child.
The menu is extensive and all available all day. We were there for breakfast so stuck to the all-day breakfast options. The coffee is $3 all day and babycino free. They have Little Gremlins options (kids meals). These include kids slider, fish bites, or salt and pepper squid with chips, tomato sauce and soft drink/juice. Or for breakfast Little Gremlin Eggs & Bacon – these were all $9.99. There is also an ice cream option with vanilla ice cream, choice of sauce and fairy floss!
It is table service and when we were there it the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our coffee order was taken almost straight away and then we were left to look at the menu. While we had coffee and waited for our meals to come I was able to chat with my friends while Miss 3.5 played at the nearby playground.
The meals were generous sizes and we were all happy with our choices. My daughter had the Little Gringos egg & bacon and she ate most of hers. Some of the other dishes looked good so I think we will be back to try something else.
