We tried Kallis Fish Cafe, in Leederville, a few weeks ago as my husband wanted Sardines and they have them on the menu. Well we all enjoyed it so much we went back again this week for lunch. The service is friendly, food tasty and it catered well to our little one.
We were greeted as we walked in and given a choice of tables to sit at. We chose a booth seat as it is easier to keep Miss 3 seated in a booth. As we were seated we were given menus and offered drinks. The kids’ menu is on a colouring and activity sheet so Miss 3 got colouring straight away. Though the activities were above her level she coloured the pictures and then turned the page over and did her own drawing on the back.
Miss 3 was given a small takeaway style cup with straw and lid when the water was brought to the table. She enjoyed the novelty of it and it’s a great way to avoid spillages.
The menu contains all fish and seafood items. Miss 3 chose the Grilled Fish Bites, my husband and I shared the Fremantle Sardines, Mezze tasting plate and Salt and pepper squid and our other diner had the Fish and chips. We were asked if we would like Miss 3’s meal served with entree or mains but as we were sharing we just asked for everything to come together.

The food arrived in a timely manner. The sizes were just right and we were all happy with our choices. Once we had finished our meals and the plates were cleared we were offered dessert. The kid’s meal included a choice of ice cream or rocky road so we asked to see the dessert menu. Instead of a menu, the waitstaff came over with a tray that had examples of the dessert displayed. There was a choice of four, including a lemon lime brûlée, tiramisu and salted caramel semifreddo. Miss 3 decided on vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and I chose the salted caramel semifreddo which was delicious.
We dined at a lunchtime on a Sunday, the restaurant was busy but not full. We enjoyed the friendly service and casual feel of the restaurant. Miss 3 enjoys looking at the fresh seafood in the seafood market adjoining the Cafe on the way in and out and the added bonus for her is the Oxford St reserve playground which is directly across the road and on the way back to the car. The restaurant has high chairs available and a disabled toilet with change table facilities.
