Brickwrecks: sunken ships in LEGO® bricks

From the watery depths! Discover extraordinary shipwrecks, revealed in incredible LEGO® model detail at Maritime Museum!

Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught, working with expert maritime archaeologists, brings to life eight astonishing shipwrecks and their stories in this immersive exhibition on display until January 30 2022. Featuring large-scale LEGO® models of ships such as Western Australia’s famous Batavia, the “unsinkable” Titanic, the highly decorated Vasa and the ill-fated Terror and Erebus including interactive exhibits, plus real and replica shipwreck objects. Come and uncover the stories of the voyages, life aboard the ships, their watery demise and the shipwreck detectives who locate and document the wrecks. This new exhibition is developed and designed by the Western Australian Museum in partnership with the Australian National Maritime Museum and Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught. Stirling Business Centre is delighted to bring you its first art exhibition, ArtBiz@SBC, featuring an appealing selection of artworks and sculptures by three local Stirling artists; Ben Brennan, Shona McGregor and Tony Pankiw. With funding through the City of Stirling’s Community Creativity Fund, Stirling Business Centre will be playing its part in supporting the local art community. SBC’s many diverse visitors, including those attending workshops or meeting with centre tenants, will now be able to enjoy the artwork of these local artists as they visit the Centre. Stirling Business Centre is also anticipating this exhibition will ignite potential collaborations and opportunities between the creative and small business communities. The exhibition opens Friday 30 July, accessible to the public Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5pm until Friday 19 November. Florette – A garden of green

Exhibition and creative installation relating to the picture book Florette developed in collaboration with the author and illustrator, Anna Walker. On the ground floor explore Mae’s garden, look for the frogs among the leaves, add to the wall of greenery, and nestle among the flowers for a story. Help create art and stories in a leafy forest. Let’s Glow Disco for 12-17 year olds

Let’s Glow at Mundaring Arena is a FREE youth-only disco delivered by the Shire of Mundaring’s Youth C.R.E.W. With a live DJ, chill zone, concert lighting and much more, this event promises to be a not-to-be missed school holiday event for teenagers. Get your family back into nature at the Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre’s Family Nature Day!
The Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre will be hosting a Family Nature Day on Sunday 3 October.

Madjitil Moorna Choir (All ages) and Bayswater Bilby Launch

Listen to the sounds of this unique community choir as they sing songs of healing and friendship.

Bring the whole family and join us for an afternoon with the Madjitil Moorna choir in the Maylands Ampitheatre. Bring a picnic and listen to a mix of soulful songs that connect to boodja (land/country). There will also be a coffee cart on site and the first 50 attendees will receive a voucher for a free drink!

We will also be launching our new reading club for kids the Bayswater Bilbies with fun activities and opportunities to join the club on the day.

MEET our education animals, including some cool reptiles or a playful possum (if she is behaving!) for some hands on learning. ENJOY a specially-designed, shorter tour of Woodland Reserve, visiting the wetland and spending lots of time in the soft-release enclosure where you can…. SEE the critically endangered woylie and the quendas going about their evening business and feeding at your feet!

Cletrac Crawler Tractor Demonstration

Hear the sounds of the Cletrac Crawler tractor at work as we demonstrate this little power engine! Join the team at Revolutions Transport Museum as they turn on one of the tractors in the Whiteman Collection and demonstrate how this machine worked. Loved for its revolutionary roller chain system, the Cletrac was built in 1921 and could pull up to 90% of its body weight! This is a rare opportunity to see part of the museum collection in action! Join us on the forecourt outside Revolutions Transport Museum from 10am to 12noon on Thursday 7 October to see the demonstration.

Gidgestock Music Festival 2021

A family-friendly music festival in the hills of Gidgegannup to raise much needed funds for local charities.

Gidgestock Music Festival returns for its 6th year this October, bringing some of the best local music Perth has to offer to the beautiful hills of Gidgegannup, for this family-friendly, fund-raising festival, just 45 minutes from Perth city.

Experience a natural amphitheatre bush setting, a total of 24 live bands, campfires, rustic camping and dancing under the stars. Wake up to the call of the kookaburras and enjoy great fellowship and great music and, on Sunday morning, a hearty cooked breakfast!

All of the musicians/bands donate their time, as do the stage crew and a group of fabulous volunteers who, together with our generous Sponsors, make the event possible. The venue too is donated by our wonderful hosts, Steve & Jo Mitcham, who generously open the gates of their beautiful 50 acre property for the festival weekend.

All profits from the Gidgestock Music Festival are donated to the West Gidgegannup Volunteer Fire Service and the Leukaemia Foundation.

Gates open noon on Friday, so come early to secure a fabulous spot and enjoy the atmosphere. Music from 6pm – 10pm on Friday, on Saturday from 10am – until midnight and on Sunday from 8am until the festival closes at 2pm.

Kidz Awesome Play for Telethon 2021

The Kidz Awesome Play for Telethon is a fun-filled, family & community event held each year to raise funds for Telethon.
This event attracts thousands of people from all over the Perth metropolitan area.
It is a day of carnival rides, amusements, pony rides, market stalls, food & drink trucks, as well as live stage performances.
In 2020, a year like no other, we raised $29,000 for Telethon.

Sustainability and conservation are in focus at EnviroFEST 2021, Whiteman Park’s flagship public conservation event. Learn about ways to improve your sustainability in the home and connect with environmental conservation in and around our city.
You’ll get to do some hands-on learning at our sustainability workshops, learn about some important conservation topics in our short talks, pick up an array of eco-friendly products and discover community engagement opportunities to help you embrace sustainable living.
EnviroFEST 2021 will emphasise wildlife protection: come along to see some of our local native wildlife up close, find out what you can do at home to help them and how you can support the conservation groups working to protect various species.
The kids won’t miss out either, with a dedicated Kids Eco Zone of talks and activities. They’ll also enjoy loads of eco-crafts, free face painting, a Children’s Forest trail with the bush fairies and much more! Workshop topics and the EnviroFEST 2021 program will be available closer to the event to help you plan your day!

Gurukul WA Inc is a not-for-profit multicultural organization where the cultures and preservation of values among the WA people is celebrated. Gurukul has been instrumental to promote multiculturalism through showcasing performing arts in different events prior to its incorporation in 2020. The not-for-profit status will help the organisation to work for the community in post COVID scenario efficiently and effectively collaborating with local authorities.

Gurukul is committed to inspiring both artists and individuals in the community and will offer free art classes to local people who join together to help people create beautiful, meaningful art to increase self-awareness, enhance cognitive abilities and enjoy the pleasures of life through artistic production and reflection.

WA Beach Clean-Up Day – Coogee

Our oceans need your help! Join Tangaroa Blue and the Cockburn crew as they clean Coogee Beach and surrounds. Together we can lessen the impact that plastic pollution is having on our oceans. It is estimated that 1 million seabirds are killed by plastic pollution each year. Every piece of rubbish you remove from the beach could save a life. Together we can save our oceans! Look out for our gazebos on the boardwalk. The clean-up will be along the beach and surrounds in North Coogee. Please be SunSmart, wear enclosed shoes, a hat and bring some water in a reusable container (no single use plastics please). Sunscreen and all clean-up equipment will be provided by the City of Cockburn. After all your hard work, you will receive a free coffee/beverage voucher to use at a nearby cafe. What to bring: Please wear long trousers, closed in shoes, a hat and drink bottle! Refreshments/Food: A free coffee voucher will be provided to volunteers. Register here

The Annual VINTAGE SURFBOARDS COLLECTORS MEET Show….Shine….Swap….Coffee This is an opportunity to not only bring boards to trade/sell, but to show and discuss classic examples of surfboard evolution and history with like minded collectors and enthusiasts. BirdLife WA: Walk @ Rotary Park, Wanneroo

Celebrating Bird Week

To celebrate Bird Week (18th – 24th October 2021), the City of Wanneroo will be holding a walk and talk about local birds starting with a short walk at Lake Joondalup. The walk will be hosted by expert walk leaders from Birdlife WA, commencing at Rotary Park Scenic Drive Wanneroo at 8am Saturday October 23rd finishing at 9am.

Rotary Park Wanneroo is nested within Yellagonga Regional Park and is alongside Lake Joondalup. Yellagonga Regional Park is a nature reserve dominated by a wetland system including Lake Joondalup. The diversity of habitat within the Park caters for a variety of waterbirds, bushbirds and other wildlife. Over 87 species of birds have been sighted at Lake Joondalup including varieties of waterfowl, honeyeaters, galahs, raptors and many more including some migratory birds.

On the morning of the walk, you will be provided with a list of birds commonly sighted in this location and asked to see if you can spot them in their native habitat as you are guided on a short walk finishing at 9am.

A follow-up talk will commence at 9.30am in Wanneroo Library to provide more detailed information about the birds in Wanneroo and this event can be booked separately through Eventbrite
