Lights for Lifeline

Sunday, 1 December to Friday, 27 December
Yagan Square, corner Wellington Street & William Street, Perth

Lifeline WA‘s magnificent Lights for Lifeline Christmas tree will be on display at the square this Christmas as part of City of Perth’s Christmas Lights Trail.

The Christmas tree will be lit with thousands of lights, representing the 47,000 Western Australians who were brave enough to call 13 11 14 over the last 12 months.

The festive season is the busiest time of year for Lifeline. It is the time of the year where levels of anxiety, depression and suicide increase. It is also a time of giving and, for many Australians, appreciating what they have in the company of loved ones. Your contribution to this campaign will help Lifeline WA train new Telephone Crisis Support Volunteers and continue to provide valued existing volunteers with ongoing training and support so that they can help the thousands of people who call 13 11 14 each year for help.

You can visit Lifeline WA’s website to donate and share the #lightsforlifeline

Santa’s Enchanted Wardrobe

Sunday, 1 December to Tuesday, 24 December
Ellie Eaton Pavillion, 1 Graylands Road, Claremont

Immersive Theatre … Be part of the story

In immersive theatre, the boundaries between actor, set, audience and reality are blurred generating a new and exciting emerging form of theatre that brings the audience into the story in a much more real and compelling way.

Immersive Theatre is all about creating participative theatre experiences where audience members give up their ‘observer’ status to become co-actors and co-creators of the storytelling process. The audience are not merely passive bystanders. They are part of the story, however small their role may be. They may have a part to play in overcoming obstacles, achieving a mission or being an influence to what is unfolding.

Although there is a story-line with a mission and plot, our performers intuitively interact with audience members This makes every performance totally unique because no two audience members will ever respond the same way and therefore the response of the actor is also unique.

Santa’s Enchanted Wardrobe Immersive theatre experience invites co-actors ( audience members)  to begin the experience with a game of hide and seek, entering the fantasy world through an enchanted wardrobe and completing an important mission by physically making their way through various Fantasy lands that have obstacles and tasks to complete. The audience can choose their level of interaction by making choices about how to respond to actors and obstacles that emerge along the way.

Note: Please be advised that Buggy’s/Prams must be left outside the event and Under 2’s must be carried through the experience. Event organisers reserve the right to check ID of any person in attendance to this event. This includes adults and under 2-year-olds.

Tickets are essential! Book online here.

WA Maritime Museum, Victoria Quay Road, Fremantle

Travel back in time and discover the determination, machines and genius that carved the great Roman Empire!

This family-friendly exhibition features carefully reconstructed replica machines that reflect one of the most technologically significant times in the human history.

The Roman Imperial period (52BC – 476AD) was an era of massive construction and large scale technical innovation that brought about unprecedented wellbeing.

You will be surprised to see how much we inherited from 2,000 years ago—many of the objects, concepts and machines are still part of our modern lives.

Due to the ravages of time, very few pieces of ancient Roman technology and machinery have survived in their entirety.

However – through studying archaeological finds and ancient texts, exhibition creators have reconstructed ancient Roman technology using the same materials and techniques used thousands of years ago.

This exhibition includes models, catapults, frescoes, armour, weapons, busts, and much more!

Ancient Rome is best suited to primary school aged children though the entire family will enjoy learning about this fascinating era, including:

– Military genius and mighty machines (Caesar’s army, discipline, tactics, war machines, armour, weapons)

– All roads lead to Rome (measurements, transportation by road and sea, communication)

– Building Rome (engineering – roads, bridges, buildings, monuments, aqueducts, tools, machines, techniques)

– Entertainment (gladiators, colosseum, games, art, clothes, timekeeping, Roman life and people)

Discover this significant time in history as part of your family day out in Fremantle – book now!

>> See our website for great school excursion ideas!
