Stoked Festival 2019

Saturday, 6 April, 12pm to 9pm
Railway Square, Foundry Road, Midland

The City of Swan presents: Stoked!

Forged through fire and shaped in steel, the Midland Railway Workshops were the heartbeat of the Midland community for over 80 years.

The hours were long and the toil was tough. But the searing heat and buckets of sweat gave rise to soaring human spirit: endless pranks, lifelong friendships, iron-tight comradery and urban legends that just keep growing.

Quarter of a century since tools were downed for the final time, we’re saluting this epic era with Stoked – an interactive, immersive festival that pays homage to the legacy of the workshops with a visionary interpretation of life in the yards.

Part contemporary nod, part artistic tribute, and with a bit of sensory candy for all ages, Stoked will bring Railway Square alive with an awe-inspiring line-up of eats, sights and sounds.

A steampunk aerial extravaganza by Kinetica, featuring extraordinary acrobatic feats paying homage to fire and metal, will leave your jaw on the floor, while sparks will fly during a fiery demo of modern-day metalwork by Martin Jaine Sculptures.

Living statues will depict Railway Workshop scenes from the past, a blacksmithing workshop will be in full glow and the Movida Estate Canteen and Bar will bring to life the glory days of the beloved Midland Railway Workshops eatery. Innovative takes on old classics and an inventive selection of cocktails and refreshments will be served up by Crafted Events WA, Locale Kitchen, Curb Your Hunger, Smokies Barbecue, BOBBY J’s gelato and Midland favourites Syd & Phyllis.

A fire-filled finale will go off with a bang, with thrilling fire twirlers Dangerous Delights, a gob-smacking pyro display and more.

History buffs will love journeying deep into the workshops to view magnificent machines on show with perfectly preserved engines from across the years lovingly showcased by the Machinery Preservation Society and the Vintage Car Club.

There will be plenty of chill nooks for those who just want to kick back and take in the atmosphere, too.

Your ears will be treated to tunes galore from the Midland Gate Main Stage, with vintage vibes from the Jessie Gordon quintet, chilled beats by local rising stars The Hunting Birds and Junkadelic Brass Band bringing their big band sound to life with a vintage machinery percussion section.

The young (and young at heart) can feel the wind through their hair on the Runaway Train ride and kids corner, or you can snap a vintage family photo in our photobooth.

Plenty more action will be jam-packed into the day. Jump on the rail (the 2019 version, that is!) and join us for Stoked on April 6 at Railway Square.

A free shuttle bus will be running from Midland Trail Station and back all day, and there will be limited free parking onsite.

Stoked is proudly supported by Midland Gate and Movida Estate and MRA.

As they sat on their broomstick and flew through the wind…

The witch and her cat are flying happily on their broomstick – until a stormy wind blows away the witch’s hat, bow and wand.

A helpful dog, bird and frog find the witch’s lost things, and they all hop on the broom for a ride. But this broomstick’s not meant for five and – CRACK – the broom snaps in two!

When a hungry dragon appears, who will save the poor witch? And will there ever be room on the broom for everyone?

After a sell-out 2017 tour, the team behind The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child return with songs, laughs and scary fun for children aged 3 and up – and their grown-ups…

Friday, 26 April to Sunday, 28 April, 10am to 10pm
Fairbridge Village, Fairbridge Road, Pinjarra

Break away and relish three days of folk, world and roots music, arts, entertainment and camping in idyllic surrounds.

Only an hour from Perth, WA’s favourite family-friendly camping festival is back for 2019, with an incredible handcrafted program of over 100 acts you’ll never forget.

This year, Fairbridge Festival will take you on a journey of the new and the familiar, from overseas to your home turf, with breathtaking musical performances spanning folk, world, blues and roots!

The festival kicks off with performances from the beloved Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse (WA), Riccardo Tesi & Banditaliana (IT), Rory McLeod (UK) and the spectacular Flats And Sharps (UK).

Mick Thomas and the Roving Commission (VIC) returns to give you a good dose of contemporary folk. There’s a heap of Fairbridge Festival first-timers coming from across the sea, such as the hugely popular Mànran (SCT) and the powerful The Anti Trio (GER).

Closer to home Big Cry, Grace Barbé Afro Kreol, Demon Days and New Nausea are just a taste of the local talent they have in-store for you.

It’s not all about the music at Fairbridge Festival. Once again, there’s extraordinary youth and children’s programs, dance program, workshops for all ages, market and food stalls, a street parade, plus so much more.

Day, night, weekend, camping and non-camping tickets available, room for your RV or caravan, Cosy Camping and Glamping tents already set up, or space for you to put up your own.
