You can’t miss Ayla Inc, with its brightly coloured signage down the quiet backstreets (McKinnon St) of Cockburn Central.

Ayla Inc is an op shop with a difference – turtles, dinosaurs and mushroom houses, there is plenty here to keep the kids occupied, whilst you can have a little peruse of the second hand goods. Win-win!

Upon arrival, you’ll be bedazzled by quirky furniture, the psychedelic colour scheme and a huge array of aloe vera placed amongst pallets and crates stacked up high. It’s so much fun to walk into, and will spark the kids imagination from the get-go.

Walk through the Alice in Wonderland styled front garden and into the building, to be greeted by very friendly faces at the cafe. They have a little seating area, serving up hot and cold drinks, alongside tasty, lovingly prepared food.

The building is a huge warehouse, with a range of different sections to purchase second hand goodies, such as vintage pieces, kids corner, men and women’s fashion and crafts.

Also, who can’t resist a bathtub full of Tupperware?

I’d like to give a little shout out to the kid’s section – as my little boy loved exploring the toys and wouldn’t leave without this fire truck! There were also heaps of well priced kids clothes, so I’d definitely recommend a look if you’re a parent/carer and local or in the area.

You can play a great game of i-spy in the shop with the kids – ask them to find:

The dinosaurs

The flying bike

The giant birthday cake

The golf clubs (9 of them together)

My little boy loved spending time looking at the resident turtle and plonking the keys on the piano with his Dad, whilst I did a bit of retail therapy. There are some great finds here!

Ayla Inc really is an op shop with a difference, promoting a cause close to their hearts. They believe in providing aid to communities. Empowering individuals and assisting transition to independent living. Since July 2022 Ayla Inc. has aided over 15,000 families with emergency food, clothing and furniture. It’s awesome to know money spent here is going to a fantastic cause. Find out more about Ayla Inc here. www.aylainc.org.au/about

You can see examples of their community work in-store here also.

About Alison Hill

Hey, my name is Alison and I'm a Creative Communications Specialist and newly turned "Mumma" since 2022! For the last 10 years, I've been busy beavering away in Marketing and Communications for non-profits (Marine Life Conservation and Disability/Aged/Youth Services) - and now working freelance, to balance my time with a very lively little boy. I'm also a Fellow at "The Social Impact Hub", and super interested in how change-makers can drive greater social and environmental impact through their work. In my spare time I sing in a choir alongside the Joondalup Symphonic Orchestra, and I'm obsessed with all things arts and crafts. You can check out my small biz (Crafty Cause) where we explore important causes (women's rights, climate change) through immersive crafty workshops. Since becoming a "Mumma-Bear", I've found the Montessori approach to learning really resonating, and I love child-led walks in nature, whilst Bubba picks up sticks and pine cones and leaves and everything else in between (which are probably ALL still stuck in Mummy's pockets somewhere!).
