Australia Day is a time for all Australians to come together to celebrate this great country we live in. Whether you come together to have fun, share a meal or just watch the fireworks, Buggybuddys has put together a list of events and family-friendly places for you to enjoy over the long weekend with your family and friends this Australia Day.

Australia Day Skyworks – City of Perth

Saturday, 26 January, 3pm to 10pm
Langley Park, Riverside Drive, Perth

In its 35th year, and bringing together more than 300,000 people, the City of Perth Skyworks is the largest Australia Day celebration in the country.

Come along from 3pm to enjoy the free events at Langley Park Entertainment Zone and the Birak Concert at the Supreme Court Gardens. Then secure your spot on the foreshore to watch the spectacular fireworks display at 8pm.

Supported by Lotterywest and presented by Mix94.5 and Channel 9.

Australia Day Celebration Zone

Saturday, 26 January, 3pm to 7.30pm

Presented by the City of South Perth and supported by Lotterywest, the 2019 South Perth Australia Day Celebration Zone features multiple event areas with 100 free activities suitable for toddlers through to adults. New this year – Stunt Jump, Basket Connect 4, Airbrush Tattoos and the Big Wedgie Water Slides plus lots more!

In the Art Tent kids can be inspired by what they love about Australia while decorating a kite or a paper umbrella, making a friendship bracelet, creating a beautiful sand art card or making an original fridge magnet.

Roving entertainers and performers will add to the fun atmosphere: Balloon Artistry by Aaron Smith, Samba Band Beleza Samba, Puppeteers from DNA Puppetry, Hey Presto Magician, Hula Lula Ladies Band, Shrinking Violet Stilt Walkers and the Dinosaur Kids Train.

Spanning over 10 hectares along the South Perth foreshore, there will also be a range of food vendors and ample shade and picnic areas for families to enjoy. The event provides the opportunity to come together and enjoy Australia Day in a safe, alcohol and smoke free environment.
All activities in the Celebration Zone will wrap up at 7.30pm to allow you to find a spot to watch the City of Perth Skyworks fireworks display at 8pm.

2019 Australia Day Morning Ceremony & Great Aussie Breakfast

Australia Day celebrations begins early with the City of South Perth’s Morning Ceremony.

The day commences at 8am with the Flag Raising Ceremony which includes the delivery of the Australian flag, a blessing, the formal unfurling and then the rising of the Australian flag by the Australian Defence Forces.

The Citizenship Ceremony follows where guests are welcomed with a traditional Welcome to Country before being inducted as new Australian citizens. Members of the public are also invited to join in and reaffirm their citizenship pledge together with the City’s newest Australians.

The proceedings also include a presentation of the Australia Day WA Citizen of the Year Awards, acknowledging those individuals and organisations that make a notable contribution during the year, and/or those who have given outstanding service over a number of years.

The Ted Maslen Award is also presented to the student resident who achieves the highest score of all year 12 students within the City of South Perth.

The Great Aussie Breakfast is set to sizzle after the Morning Ceremony with the Rotary Club of Como, providing a BBQ breakfast.There will also be free entertainment.

Australia Day Celebration – City of Kwinana

Saturday, 26 January, from 8.30am
Kwinana Adventure Park, Walgreen Crescent, Calista

The City’s event will kick off with the official Australia Day ceremony and Citizen of the Year Awards at 8.30 am. This will be followed by our Citizenship Ceremony.

On the oval next to the park, the Kwinana Rotary Club will be serving a free cooked breakfast to our first 700 guests, the Kwinana Senior Citizen’s Centre will be serving tea and coffee and the 1st Kwinana Scout group will be serving 200 ice creams and a range of merchandise to event attendees.

The event will also feature a number of inflatable water slides, so bring along your bathers, towel and hat for plenty of fun.


Australia Day Triathlon

The Australia Day Triathlon – TWA State Sprint Triathlon Championships will be held at the Point Walter Reserve, Honour Avenue, Bicton with roads closed for the event.

Australia Day – City of Mandurah

Join us on Australia Day for Mandurah’s largest annual Citizenship Ceremony.
Head to the foreshore between 7am – 9am to enjoy a cooked Aussie breakfast thanks to the Lions Club of Mandurah and live music thanks to the Mandurah Concert Band.
The official ceremony starts at 8.30am with the winners for the Community Citizen of the Year Awards announced, followed by the welcoming of over 80 new citizens who will take their oath to become Australia’s newest citizens.
The event finishes with a flotilla of boats on the estuary, organised by Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club (MOFSC) competing for the best dressed title.

Please leave your pets at home as dogs are now prohibited at City events due to large crowd numbers.

Come say G’day on Saturday 26 January at Centennial Pioneer Park Amphitheatre in Gosnells from 8 – 11am.

The Gosnells Rotary Club will be there to fire up the barbecue with a cooked brekkie for sale or grab a bite and a cold drink at one of the onsite food vans to keep you fuelled all day.

This annual family friendly event includes a range of free entertainment and activities for all ages. The kids will love face painting, Australia-themed arts and crafts and wildlife displays.

Entertainment will take the main stage with circus performers, Aussie band ‘The Flaming Galahs’, the Birds of Prey stage show and much more.

Australia Day Big Breakfast is an alcohol and smoke free event, presented by Healthway, promoting the LiveLighter message, Lotterywest and Department of Social Services.

2019 Australia Day Festival – Town of Cambridge

Australia Day is a great opportunity for people of different backgrounds and experiences to gather together and reflect on what it means to be Australian, and to celebrate the things we have in common.

Join us for a true Aussie style celebration under the shady gum trees at Perry Lakes with a free BBQ breakfast generously supplied by the Lions Club of Floreat, a Welcome to Country, Citizenship Ceremony, live music by the Wesley Goodlet Jamboree Scouts and fun activities for the kids including a water slide, face painting, camel rides, sheep shearing and slithery and scaly friends and much more.

Bring your water bottles and help the Town with its efforts to reduce the use of a single use plastic. Free drinking water will be available during the event.

As part of the City’s Summer Series of free, family-friendly, smoke-free and alcohol-free events, come down to Churchill Park to celebrate Australia Day! The 5k Foam Fest

The 5K Foam Fest is a one of kind obstacle course based fun run. Join us for 22+ obstacles including the world’s largest inflatable waterslide, mud pits and 2.5 MILLION cubic feet of foam! Rock out all day to 12,000 watts of awesome music, enjoy a FREE kids zone for kids 7 and under, delicious food, great vendors and beer gardens. With a variety obstacles and a ton of foam the run is an exciting challenge for experienced and beginner runners alike. The 5K Foam Fest is not a hardcore run it is a FUNCORE run. GET FILTHY CLEAN!

On top of getting to run the funnest 5K of the year, you will receive a runner’s bib, Foam Fest tattoo, 5K Foam Fest beach towel & finisher’s medal along with access to the festival area, free kids zone, and free event photos for download.

Rock, Rattle and Roll Festival 2019

This event is a festival of nostalgia. 1950’s through to the 60’s through music, fashion & rides of all descriptions. Held annually with part proceeds to a chosen beneficiary in Western Australia.

To be held at Victoria Quay Fremantle with the The Vintage Collective Markets Perth Western Australia showcasing vintage and rockabilly vendors, inside the iconic Fremantle B-Shed. Food and beverage services will be on the waters edge so you can enjoy the stunning sunset and water views.
Our iconic All Wheel Show’N’Shine will be hosted around the venue with an INVITATIONAL static display along side a rolling show and shine to be held on Sunday the 27th January.
VCMPerth Events has been working hard on securing the venue to meet the needs of this unique one of a kind event.
The Vintage Collective Markets Perth Western Australia will again curate the content of this event with the Kool Katz you love from right here in WA, indoors in Bshed.
V.I.P artists, Fashion shows, Pinup contest, Armed forces radio broadcast (1950’s) vendors and All Wheel Show’n’Shine. Complementing, tattoo displays, artists, free activities, workshops and demonstrations of skills and trades of a bygone era

One Day 2019 – City of Fremantle

One Day returns to Fremantle on Sunday 27 January from 2-7:30pm.

Sydney-based singer-songwriter Montaigne will be the headline act and is joined by soul singer Adrian Eagle.

The event kicks off with a smoking ceremony at Bathers Beach at 8am, followed at 9am by traditional Aboriginal dance, didgeridoo playing and other family-friendly activities at the Kidogo Art House.

At 2pm the focus will shift to the Esplanade Reserve for the One Day concert!


Aussie Play Day

As part of the Australia Day Long Weekend, celebrate Australia’s diverse culture with a family fun day in the historic Cathedral Square. The FREE event will feature craft activities, live music and dance workshops.

Explore the community village and get creative in cubby house themed to nations from around the globe. Children can also interact and learn from international dancers from New Zealand and India.

Australia Day Outdoor Movie Night

Come along for a free Movie Night, this Australia Day 2019 long weekend! Bring along a picnic and spend a night with the neighbours, taking in the Aussie favourite, “Red Dog”!

Movie will commence after 7:30pm. Head in early to nab a great spot.

Please note, there will be no food, drinks or toilets on site; It is 100% BYO.

Train Rides and Family Fun Day

Sunday, 27 January, 10am to 2pm
Stirling Miniature Railway, 8 Vasto Place, Balcatta


We are holding a TRAIN RIDES AND A FAMILY FUN DAY ON SUNDAY THE 27th January 2019 AT VASTO PLACE BALCATTA, from 10 am until 2 pm. Eftpos, Picnic, barbecue, toilet and disabled facilities available. $10 per person or $40 per family (two adults and up to 4 children) under 3’s ride free. Tickets available at the door. Closed in shoes must be worn and feet must be kept on the train foot boards for safety. Unlimited lovely train rides, for your little Thomas the Tank Engine Fans! The trains are being polished and steamed up just for you and your little engine drivers. Add to the fun with a big party by telling all your friends about our secret train hideaway too. So come down for some family fun at Stirling Miniature Railway. We big kids are steaming up the trains at 10am until 2pm. Ride the trains with your tots as many times as you like. Maybe you could bring a picnic, or pack a barbecue or buy a delicious drink or ice cream at the kiosk. Our events run come rain or shine and there is plenty of cover from sun or showers. All of the big kids at the Club are looking forward to seeing you there. Hey – we just can’t get enough of playing with trains!

Jazz in the Park – City of Stirling

Sunday, 27 January, 1pm to 4pm
Yokine Reserve, Wordsworth Avenue, Yokine

Bring the family and a picnic lunch and enjoy some great free live music in the beautiful parkland at Yokine Reserve. Coffee van on site and playground nearby for the littlies.

Jazz in the Park is located adjacent to the Coolbina Sporting Club Clubrooms.
